McKenzie Tartan

I have a friends wedding in a few weeks time and I am hoping to wear a Mackenzie Tartan Kilt (probably Modern McKenzie). I quite like the idea of wearing an argyle jacket, possibly charcoal, a waistcoat and a tie. What I was wondering is if anyone could recommend the following?
Will a Charcoal jacket go with a Mackenzie tartan? or should I go for Black?
What colour of shirt is best? White or Black?
What colour of straight tie?
What colour of Socks?
Does anyone know of a hire company that could hire the above in the North East of Scotland.

Somewhere here are the "style threads"; separate threads on formal and casual kilted dress. I just tried to locate them and can't...I just stumbled on them again the other day but can't locate them right now. Anyway, there's a veritable cornucopia of information there...lots of guidance. Maybe somebody can remember where they're at....?

Best

Charcoal Jacket good, but black would be good.
Dark Hose, grey navy or very dark green.... red or green flashes
white shirt and dark self colour tie.
Day or semi formal sporran.
Belt only if not wearing a waistcoat
Black brogues or DM's

That would be my choice.

In most weddings a charcoal jacket would look fine, but definitely go with black if the wedding is a formal event.

I white or a light patterned shirt, but definitely go with white if the wedding is a formal event. Black shirts have been very popular lately with the Hollywood crowd, but I don't see why. I just looks wrong to my eyes.

I like to wear my university tie to such an event. Really I'll usually wear a striped tie. The colour doesn't matter too much, unless the wedding is a formal event.

I would wear blue or green because that's what I own, but again the colour doesn't matter. Actually I think that an ancient red would look quite dashing.

Dress is very much a personal thing and there is no right way but some things are definitely better than others. My preferences:

I too favour University or Regimental. Otherwise a plain colour that is sympathtic to one of the shades on the tartan.

Anything but white. Dark green or navy would look good.

Assuming by NE you're meaning close(ish) to Aberdeen then you could try McCalls. I see that they do MacKenzie - http://www.mccalls.co.uk/hire/index.php?id=1
