    New Amerikilt fabric

A couple of years ago, I had an Amerikilt. Liked the style, well made, at under $100 a great bargain....But. The fabric wrinkled instantly. It always looked a mess on me, I tend to wrinkle things easily. I was at the Celtic Fling in Manheim PA early this summer, where Amerikilt has a booth. They are using a new fabric. It has a completely different "hand" than the old fabric, and was touted as being less apt to wrinkle. So I ordered a new one in black.

I am very pleased with it. The construction, style etc, is still excellent, and it doesn't wrinkle at your first movement. In fact it is quite wrinkle resistant. Highly recommended. The only change in style I noticed was that the back hip pocket seems to be a bit larger, IIRC. This is a good thing, they were a tad small.

That is great news! It was really the only thing I didn't care for so much with the old fabric.
I'd love to know about any weight difference as well.

The new fabric is 10 oz cotton duck cloth. Just talked with them on the phone yesterday and they told me about it.

I'm not sure what the weight was in oz before, but it feels a tad heavier.

I mean this in the nicest of ways, but if you knew economics it would be scary Matt. You are the "go to" guy on so many traditional issues and here you are providing good answers on a clearly contemporary kilt issue. Thanks for this info.

The duckcloth isn't listed on their website yet, it still lists the 8.5oz. cotton. I have a Utilikilt that is made out of 12oz. duckcloth and boy is it ever stiff! It doesn't drape around your leg when you kneel down on one knee like a softer material and can therefore leave you a bit more more exposed...

It is a little stiff, but I suspect with a washing or two, it will be fine. If you can remember what bluejeans were like new when they weren't prewashed or stone washed, but actually new fabric, that's about the feel.

    You're dating yourself, Geoff!

I'll have to check out the new fabric. I need a new knockabout.
