New kilt

I just put a couple pics of my latest kilt in my gallery. This is one of the two cold weather kilts I'm making.

Looking good Bubba, very impressive. What is it that makes this a "cold weather" kilt? Is it the material or did you try adding a warm lining?

Very Nice work Bubba! I do not have a very discriminating eye since I am so new to this and have not seeen the traditional types up close but from what I can see that's some pretty good work!

I have in mind to make a couple of lined kilts for myself, using 8" of fabric per 2" knife-pleat.

A couple of my kilts have an inside box pleat (or as some call it a (reverse pleat) at the begining of the under apron and a larger pleat at the begining of the over apron.

It seems to me the aprons on these kilts fall better, and allow more freedom of movement. any thoughts on this?

Well Bubba with my un-Trained eye I'd say your kilt looks really great.

I've found when I make sporrans that you get a real kick from wearing somthing that you have made yourself.

Bubba, the pleating on that kilt looks really good. Is that a registered tartan, or just a nice plaid from the fabric store? Either way it looks great!

It's 15 oz wool so it's going to be fairly warm in the colder weather. It isn't a registered tartan that I know of, I picked it up cheap on clearance at the fabric store. Of course it has the reverse pleat and the deeper last pleat, it does make it hang and move better. I have enough of this fabric left for one more, that's my next project. It'll give me 3 kilts I consider heavy enough for a Wisconsin winter.

I know what you mean. I made my hobby into a job. For a while it was ok, but it did eventually ruin the hobby.
