    New tartan recorded in ITI

The Fitzsimmons Tartan was officially recorded in the STA’s International Tartan Index on 20 December 2005; we received the framed sample and certificate today and are very pleased with the result.

The particulars for the Fitzsimmons Tartan are as follows:

    ITI tartan name: Fitzsimmons
    ITI tartan number: ITI 6808
    ITI thread counts: T/6, OG4, K8, DT12, K8, OG30, K8, DG36, K4, OG/6

A huge thank you goes out to Matthew Newsome, curator of the Scottish Tartans Museum, for his professional expertise and guidance in helping me realize the design and recording of the Fitzsimmons Tartan. Without him, the tartan would not have become a reality.

In addition, Mark Simmons (macsim here at Xmarks) is to be recognized for his steadfast patience and continued support in the design of the tartan. My sincere gratitude goes out to him for his thoughtful input and assistance, especially for helping finalize the tartan’s colors. Thank you, Mark.

    Congratulations!

Just out of curiousity, what did it cost you, time and treasure all told?

    John,

This took years of careful thought and design. It all came together in the past two years with much appreciated help from Matt Newsome, who led me in the right direction to get this tartan woven and then recorded in the ITI. The monetary cost is a private matter but it's been worth every dollar spent; I have at least two other tartans I intend to have woven and recorded later this year. The first is a variation of the Fitzsimmons tartan while the second will be a "universal" tartan for all to wear.

The STA has recently updated it's site and the Fitzsimmons Tartan is now online.

    Robin,

Thank you! The .gif image at the STA site is off as far as color goes but that's because of the software used to generate the image. Look here for a better view if you like:

The framed certificate is very classy... along with the tartan of course.
