    Non-traditional Sporrans

    Non-traditional sporrans, or non-sporran sporrans.

With so many casual kilts being worn, has anyone considered something other than a sporran to sit in front of your kilt? Or a sporran made from something other than leather? Such as canvas, denim etc.

Jerry @ Stillwater Kilts (a forum advertiser) has a ballistic nylon sporran.
Other than that, I can't really think of any non traditional materials being used in production.

    I personally prefer leather.

I have these two. They are tactical bags from ALICE gear -

I wear them with my modern military kilts during the day. Such as when Amy and I head out to the Games.

Most of my sporrans are what would be considered non traditional, especially since I've made most of them myself. Here is a pic of them from a while ago however the collection has grown since then.

Sporran Nation has some interesting stuff, including vegan options. Not quite traditional but still definitely a sporran...

One of my own creation. This is a prototype, so the fit and finish isn't great as I was working out function instead of fashion. It has a pocket in the flap for ID, cash, stuff you might want quicker access to. The velcro on the flap lets me change patches easily so I usually use my old patches from my flight suit. The strap is a recycled camera strap in the pic but has been upgraded since this was taken.

The tabs seen here can be pulled loose and you can pretty much stuff a cantalope in there.

I have several similar to this as well as two Rob Roy types with detachable and interchangeable flaps but don't have pics handy.

I like these for hiking, fishing, etc. I usually wear these when there's a risk of damage or soiling. With about two to five dollars in materials invested I never have to worry about damage!

The grass is greener on the other side of the fence...and it's usually greenest right above the septic tank.
