wonderful thread , but where to start! just a few to start as I'm in a hurry to get out this morning, but as a kiltmaker I am very happy to experiment with all sorts of fabrics, either tradiitional or not, so I have just found the first few that might be interesting.

I don't know if I could pull off wearing it, but I'd love to see a kilt done up in peacock paisley fabric

we may very well be talking in the coming months, as you're one of the kilt makers on my "want" list, but it will most likely be for something a bit more subdued. Keep in mind that even tartan is well out of my normal comfort zone - I AM the chap that owns 8 black suits*, after all.
