Can anybody give me an insight on SportKilt? I had never heard of them before until today.What kind of products do they put out there?

My first kilt is/was a sportkilt. it's ok as a first kilt I guess, but judging on it so far, I wouldn't buy another.

I'm scared to wash it, as I'm quite sure the pleats won't hold much longer anyway. I'm considering sewing them down.

I plan on getting a stillwater next, then probalby holding out for a true tank. For the money, I'm guessing stillwater is a much better deal, though I've not seen one up close. Just not satisfied with what the sportkilt is, compared to what the stillwater seems to be. I'll have to wait and see I guess.

I use mine for the gym and for bumming around the house, otherwise I don't. it's good for that and not much else. I think of it as a kilted equivlent of sweat pants.

I looked at a Sport Kilt Stewart Navy as a starter Kilt and after reading many reviews here against Sport Kilt I was shocked at actually how much material was in the Poly blend model. There was about 13 "pleats" and the apron has an extra deep pleat on each side. While it is very light I believe this is what makes sport kilt a great lounging kilt. You could easily forget your wearing it. The pleats are very loose and align with nothing but a bit of ironing and they hold a crease. I'd recomend washing the kilt to relax the material, then press the pleats in with an iron then sew the pleats in.

The biggest turn of to me was due to the elastic in the back, you have this mass of cloth buched up in your lower back that sticks out about an inch. It looks terrible and there fore you are obligated to wear your shirt untucked to cover this or at least have a baggy shirt that will drape over to cover this.

To summarize my opinion:
I'd say to start with a Stillwater Standard if you will only have the one kilt for a while and will want to wear it in public.

If you just want something light and soft to lounge around the house in, go for the sport kilt.

Dollar to Dollar I'd say the Stillwater is the wiser purchase but due to the high wasit I don't think it would be as comfortable to lounge in.

I have one that I use when I am doing yard work or any other dirty chore. Otherwise it hangs in the closet.

I think that you have your question answered. After becoming a member of this board, I have changed my mind about them, and this thread has added to that descision.
