SWK Standard vs. Heavyweight

Hello, I am looking into purchasing my first kilt and I think I will buy one from SWK. Since I know I will be wearing this for years (I'm only 16) is it worth it to upgrade from the standard to the heavyweight? They are still cheaper than most other places so price isn't an issue. What are some specific reasons why one is better than the other and vice versa? And for cleaning, is there a special method or can I just throw it in the washer?

I'm looking forward to it and based on what I hear about SWK, my kilt should be getting here in a few minutes.

I have one of the heavyweights and it is great for cold weather. I generally wear it from late fall to early spring. Pair it up with a good heavy sweater and it's good to at least -5F and probably lower temps. Here in Colorado it does get a little too warm for the summer months.

The SWK standard is made of acrylic. The material snags easily and will eventually start pilling. It can be machine washed and hung up to dry.

The SWK Heavyweight is made of wool. It will not snag or pill, and will last a lot longer than acrylic. A wool kilt should be dry cleaned or carefully hand washed.

Since you are 16 years old, I doubt you will be wearing the same kilt for more than 2 or 3 years as you are still growing.

If you're concerned with the cost, I would go with the standard. Where do you hail from? I'm in San Jose, CA, and my SWK is plenty warm in the winter. It doesn't get much below freezing, however, so I'm not sure how much colder it would be good for. In the summer, the kilt is a little warm, but it should be fine. I also have it dry cleaned, just to be on the safe side. I don't trust my washing machine
