On tour

I just got back. My band was on tour for the last week and a half. I was kilted almost the entire time (except for three evenings).

The band was slightly shocked to see that I was wearing a utilikilt to show up for the first gig in Maryland. I continued to wear the utilikilt during the days while travelling and my sportkilt at the evening dances we were hired for (we're expected to wear suits). Most venues I just swapped out my dress pants for the sportkilt. I must say that drumming in a kilt feels great.

Very cool! And I love the Gulf Shores U-haul trailer. Nice to see word spreading about the Redneck Riviera.

I did throw pants on one of the mornings. We had a gig the night before that required the entire band wearing 3 piece suits, so my kilt was left in the uhaul trailer.

A few of the guys were joking with me when they saw I had pants on again, they told me the trailer would be my dressing room. So (still standing on the sidewalk outside the hotel) I very calmly opened the trailer, pulled the utilikilt out of my garment bag and snapped it around my waist. I said in a very sarcastic tone "I don't need no dressin' room" and dropped my pants with the kilt still snapped around my waist. Put my belt on and tossed the pants in the uhaul.

That same utilikilt also carried many, many beers during that trip.

Well lets see some pictures of you in action. Namely the beer hauling and the drumming.

Unfortunately there are no pics of beer hauling. The few pics there are of me drumming doesn't show the kilt well. It's mostly hidden behind the bass drum and floor tom.

I don't like to get too off track, so I'll make this quick. I play with Neon Swing. We won't be back to virginia probably until next summer. We play there once a year at the clarendon ballroom.

Back to the subject at hand. I was kilted almost the entire trip. I think I convinced two of my bandmates to try wearing kilts. One of which has a real interest in bagpiping, but doesn't have the time to devote to it.

From the photo, I immediately knew that you had been here in NYC. Did you post that you were going to play? I'm sure some of us might have gotten together to attend and welcome you.
