Utilikilt Aprons Blowing Open

Well I have three Utilikilts, and I love them all. The only problem I have been having with them is the aprons blowing open all the time and coming VERY close to exposing bits that shouldnt be exposed... Plus when it happens it makes it easier for the wind to get up under the kilt and lift the whole thing up. I am somewhat hesitant to use a pin to hold it down, owing to the denseness of the fabric, I think it would leave very obvious holes behind. So what I have been doing is using matching colored paperclips to hold the apron closed, which works ok. I am just wondering if anyone else has this problem, and what they have done, if anything, to fix it.

I own 5 UK's, and while the apron does blow with the wind a lot, I find the snaps will keep you modest. I have never had the kilt try blow up on me, except for the time I was on a mountain... but that's because the wind had a chance to come from underneath, which doesn't really happen often in day-to-day activities.
Maybe you could add a small bit of velcro to keep it from blowing open?

I wear a sporran with my 4 Mockers and 1 Original. the back flies up once in a while in a really bad wind, but I also wear dark briefs so don't give anyone an untoward show (and my boys are secure.) Doesn't work for everyone, but that's how I roll.

I've been wearing mostly UK's for five years now, and they don't really blow up as much as you think. The outer apron will flap open a bit and show some thigh, but the under apron stays pretty much in place.

With the snaps placed so, the parts you REALLY need covered can't really be seen just by the front apron blowing open. If it really makes you feel uncomfortable you might try adding some weight (like for drapes) into the apron hem. Avoid pinning the two aprons together - that's a recipe for tearing the fabric.

Hello and a warm from Boston, Massachusetts. I have a large paper clamp hanging on the flap of my outer apron, it holds it down on my UK Basic. I wear my UK at kilt waist, so the snaps do not really fully cover the need. The fact that the under apron has a deep pleat does work to protect things well when the outer apron floats up. The most anyone sees is a little more of my fat legs. The only time the wind did get me was on the summit of Mount Washington in New Hampshire. Fortunately it was an all male kilted hiking group, and we all suffered equally.

How about a magnet type kilt pin? There are a few folks around here that use them. It may just be enough weight to do the trick.

Two things, I now wear a very light cotton underkilt, that preserves the kilt, body oils, sweat etc and aslo a bit more modesty.
I also now wear most of the time a medical type mesh under garment that makes me comfortable, allows air movement and gives a feeling of modesty.
