Does anyone have pictures of thier Ancient Macdonald? I'd like to see some pleating options. I personally love tartan pleated to the line, but know modern MacDonald is hardly ever pleated this way because it's too busy. Would the "Ancient" lighter colors change this. . . or would I still end up with the dreaded lawn chair? Thanks for the help!

I have Ancient MacDonald pleated to sett, but am not sure I have any pictures that show the back of the kilt and pleats well. I cannot get on to check at work so I will look tonite when I get home.

I have pleated a MacDonald to the sett. The tartan does not have a dominant stripe that would lend it to pleating to the stripe. I do love the tartan but it just doesn't want to be pleated to the stripe in my opinion.

Well that's too bad. I suppose I'll have it pleated to the sett. I'd still love to see anyone's pictures.

Yup - won't pleat worth a darn to the stripe. But! There are lots of other MacDonald tartans. The Hunting MacDonald of the Isles, for example, would pleat beautifully either to the red or to the white stripe. Several of the other MacDonalds will also pleat well to the stripe.

And, if you're interested in the MacDonald of Sleat, I actually have a piece that I'd part with for a reasonable price. I did one several years ago for Turpin, although it was pleated to the sett (http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/t...acdonald+sleat). Might be possible to pleat it to the narrow green stripe - would depend on the width of the red on each size plus the size of the person.

I like the MacDonald of the Isles Hunting very much. Perhaps that will be my first project when I'm back on my feet again. My first project was going to be the Ancient MacDonald I have, but I wanted to complete it in time for my wedding June 6th. My music schedule shot through the roof and now I haven't the time, but a friend does! It will be great wearing a kilt in the Highlands of the Chugach in Alaska for the wedding :) I'll have to start another post with pictures when all's said and done.

Great to hear from you and thanks for the advice. I'd take you up on the MacDonald of Sleat, but I've never been a fan of red and green together like that. . . but thank you for the offer.

Well I did hear that Old MacDonald had a farm...

I also have a MacD of Glencoe Muted pleated to sett which has some nice options for pleating to stripe and comes in either the more colorful muted (I know sounds backward) or the more sedate and stately Modern colors.

I looked and only have one low resolution picture of my MacD Ancient to sett on a hanger that doesn't really look great, and figured you could probably know what that was going to look like instead of pleated to stripe, so I chose not to post it. I can if you would like, just let me know. I do have pics of the MacD of Glencoe Muted which I have posted here before and here is the link to that:
