    Box pleat kilt instructions

    Hi folks

I have just about sold out of the first printing of The Art of Kiltmaking, and I'm getting ready to do a second edition. Right now, the plan is for Matt to collaborate with me on a chapter on box-pleated kilts. It doesn't need a whole book, because much of the instructions are identical to those for making a knife-pleated trad kilt. At the moment, what we're considering is both including the chapter in the new book and also printing a bunch of stapled supplements of only that chapter so that someone who has already bought the first edition can buy just the supplement and won't have to buy an entirely new book. That's the plan, anyway.

I'll keep you guys posted with how the plan is proceeding. I'm going down to visit Matt in November to see how he makes box-pleated kilts so that I can write the text and do the illustrations for him to vet. I'll know better at that point if our idea is a good one!! Anyway, it will be fun to meet Matt in person, see his work, and visit the Tartan's Museum!

BTW - you guys who are part of Barb's Posse - I could use your comments just as soon as possible if you haven't already sent them to me.

Awhile ago, I offered to send a kiltmaking book free to anyone who wanted to take the book, make a kilt, and provide feedback for the second edition. I got about 20 takers. They are Barb's Posse (they named themselves!).

Darn, I missed out on that one. However, since I've been planning on getting the book, I'll just wait till the new edition is out.

Great idea. And great timing as I've been pondering a box peat after my first knife pleat is done.

FYI - it will probably be some time this spring before the new edition is ready. I have to squeeze work on the book in amongst all of the other things I have to do.

No problems...it will probably be next Christamas before I finish the kilt I'm sewing now!
