EMS tartan

Just throwing this out there. If this is the wrong place, mods, feel free to move it.

I know we have a firefighters memorial tartan, and a police officers memorial tartan. How come there is no tartan for EMS professionals? Has no one shown interest? Was it just not considered?

I thought about designing one myself, but color matching and all is not what I have an eye for. I have to say, I would be one of the first to order a EMS memorial tartan kilt.

Any thoughts from the professional kilt makers out there?

I was wondering how they would get the proper shades of melena and bile in there.

If you email Mark, I'm sure he'd love to get a new run done up. I am pretty sure he's looking to do a 'muted' version since he already had his first run of the brighter colors.

So have we rejected the "tradtitional" MacMedic Pizza Parlor Tablecloth EMT tartan as MacDougal is wearing in this pic from the 2008 Phoenix, AZ games?

While I have no room to state my likes / dislikes when it comes to another man's (or woman's) tartan design, I will say that I think a little more thought / design should have gone into that one.

That one was kind of designed "tongue in cheek."

The medical/first aid tent at the Stone Mountain Highland Games each year is staffed by some really wonderful people. They wanted to get into the spirit of things, and so took a lot of care to "do up" their tent like a "clan tent" and even decided to call themselved Clan MacMedic, and made up a nice sign to hang up by the tent entrance.

Well a clan needs a tartan, right? So they went out and bought a bunch of red and white checked cloth to use as table covers, banners, etc., and many of the staff even wore a peice of the tartan somewhere. The idea was that the red and white design formed little "red crosses." Plus it was readily available to decorate their tent.

Because they provided such a wonderful and essential service to the Stone Mountain Highland Games, and because they put forth such an effort to get into the "clan spirit," the Scottish Tartans Society honored them by recording their tartan as the "MacMedic" tartan. You'll still see it proudly displayed by the medical volunteer staff at those Games each year.

Mr. Newsome,

Sounds like a fun loving group of Medics at the games. I have visions of Hawkeye and Trapper John (from MASH) wearing MacMedic kilts standing by a bottle of single malt rigged as an IV bottle, to be used strictly for medical purposes. Red and white sporrans. Gauze scissors in place of sgian dubh.

Aye, that's the story! Thanks Matt.

Which is why MacDougall chose it - closest he had back then for his nursing.

Every trade/profession should have a well thought out tartan....

Maybe even bureaucrats....

Thanks for the National Register link. Though I note they have the thread count incorrect, at least as far as the graphic displayed. The red and white counts should be equal.
