How much cloth for a lady's pleated tartan skirt?

I have been shopping remnants with an eye towards buying enough double wide to have a pro make a pleated tartan skirt for my fiance.

I finally have the top secret number for the widest part of her hips. It is a number between 28 and 38 inches.

My question is how much double wide do I reasonably need to supply to the pro seamstress?

I have the general idea that the more cloth I supply, the more pleats the seamstress can make. What I don't have is the foggiest notion how many pleats how deep a lady's tartan skirt ought to have.

1.3 meters of double wide to open, 1.5 meters to play hardball? 6 meters? I am asking because I don't know.

    Thanks.

Proceed with caution, lad, but proceed indeed! Good luck on the skirt, the reception, and on not getting into trouble by discussing her measurements here, even discreetly!

If the skirt is short enough that double-width cloth can be split and joined, then two yards should be sufficient.

If it is to be a longer skirt (more than half the length of the fabric width), you'd want to get four yards.

I have three kilt skirts, 2 formal and one short and all are 5 yards, and I'm a size 10. I wouldn't go with anything less.
