Kilt Kamp 2015 - who's up for it?

Time to start thinking ahead! Steve and I are bringing Kilt Kamp back to the northeast US next summer. If you don't know what Kilt Kamp's all about, you can see the photo journal from last summer's KK at http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/f...-2014-a-85186/

Here are the details for Kilt Kamp 2015!

When: starts 8 am Sunday, July 26, ends 5 pm Thursday, July 30. The Great American Irish Festival and pipe band competition is on Saturday the 25th, and people are welcome to come a day early to go to the Festival.

Where: Hamilton College, Clinton, NY; low-cost housing is available in the dorms; motel and B&B options are available nearby.

Instructors: Barb Tewksbury (author of The Art of Kiltmaking) for traditional kiltmaking (knife, box, and Kingussie) and Steve Ashton (owner of Freedom Kilts) for contemporary kiltmaking.

Cost: $350 plus lodging. You provide tartan (or we can order tartan for you at wholesale prices) and other kilting materials.

We'll post the official registration thread after January 1. Just holler if you have questions!

    Who's interested?

    Shrek: Nooo!
Donkey: Oh, you put him out in the sun, he turns brown, starts sprouting little hairs.
    Shrek: Yessssssss!

I love that part of the movie.

I'm interested. Not sure if it'll be traditional or contemporary yet.

Already!!!!! The pressure is too great.....Well, ok. I'll start collecting beer cans.

Harlan was so much better this last year. Only two accidents. To be fair, he has too much water before bedtime. Wasn't his fault.

Interesting. I know the place well. My Dad grew up in Clinton and I still have some family in the area. I've never thought about actually making a kilt - but now have "food for thought."

Kilt Kamp is going to be one of the highlights of my life. Driving out and back was a great adventure. However My Kamp project is going to wind up costing me about $5,000, when everything I spent is totaled in, like a Cowichan sweater I've wanted since I was 12 years old, way back in the last century, that I wouldn't have bought if I hadn't been in Victoria window shopping. So be warned, the kilt you make at Kamp is going to cost you far more than anything you can buy. I could probably get Barb to make me a dozen kilts for what I've effectively spent on my Kamp project.

Go to Kamp for the pleasure of going, and meeting a great group of people, an be prepared to hold your own, 'cause your gonna get razzed.

Before camp I wasn't much but a button sewer myself, and I learned to stitch a kilt. I have bad eyesight, cataracts, sever arthritis in my hands, and I still manged to get things done. You can do it too. Take the plunge.
