Need some quick help with a term

I have a kilt that I bought and I'm happy with it, but I want to start making my own. I'm seriously close to starting with my first DIY one (buying the material this week for a canvas type kilt) and I've read all I can find about kiltmaking. I have even been reading the instruction manual on my wife's sewing machine. Some terms have given me trouble. Most I have been able to figure out but could somebody tell me real quick with a "the fell" is?
    That would be most appreciated
I may be back for more later
    Thanks!!

The fell is the area of the pleats that are sewn. For a kilt that is 24" long, the fell should be around 8". I hope that helps.

The distance between your waist and hips. Typically the sewn down portion of the pleats in a kilt.

Nah, you don't need luck - you just need a lot of practice taking out bad seams so you can sew them in again.

I fell on my fell and hurt my bumm. O'Neille
Cowards die many times before their deaths; the valiant never taste of death but once. Of all the wonders I yet have heard, it seems to me most strange that men should fear; seeing that death, a necessary end, will come when it will come. --William Shakespeare, Julius Caesar

I would reccomend picking up "The Art of Kiltmaking" from http://www.celticdragonpress.com/ if you haven't already.
