Yes and no to all of your questions...

Brian Boru buttons tend to be round (with little harps on them), although I have seen them with square buttons.

Prince Charlie and Argyl jacket buttons tend to be square and come in 3 different sizes (small, med and large). Some jacket makers use both med and large buttons for different parts of the jacket.

Also, they can come in Chrome and Antique...

    Hope the info helps...

lol do the BB jackets use one size?

    or would it be acceptable?

mix and match probably not a good idea?

what if only the 2 front buttons for chain closure were different!

My recommendation.....don't stress over having slightly mix-and match buttons. Buy buttons, affix them and proceed in comfort and style!

I'm not a fan of the mix and match thing myself... MAYBE if it was a "daywear" jacket, but not on a Brian Boru (for those that are reading this and don't know, a Brian Boru is like a Prince Charlie, but Irish and slightly different in cut... very formal)

I think that if I couldn't get the buttons that are already on the jacket (get matching ones), I'd buy enough to re-do the whole jacket so they all matched. I just think it's a more "polished" look.

Amen, Rocky. With formal attire, one should attempt to be as "polished" as possible, rather than a hap-hazzard look.
