referal for tartan vest tailor

I realize it probably isn't that difficult a task;but, I am very severly visually impaired, and don't know a qualified tailor. Any suggestions would be most welcome. Stateside would be preffered, for budget reasons only.

Try Matt Newsome at that Tartan Museum. Local, and a top quality product. That said, because tartan waistcoats really have to be custom made, they are not exactly cheap, whether made in the USA or elsewhere. I'd expect to spend about $200 for a quality waistcoat.

Thanks MacMillan, I tried to get him up at the museum friday, but he is probably taking a much deserved day off, than again, with his schedule probably not.

On a side not, You wouldn't happen to know Sir Robert Bell would you...

Kathy Lare www.kathyskilts.com sewed up this X Marks the Scot tartan vest for me to go with the matching kilt. Don't think she lists vests on her price list, but she sews them up for a fair price. Has them staghorn buttons, black back with the little belt thingie. Was a few years back but price was very fair. I supplied the tartan material from the X Marks run.

I'll second that suggestion and I belive his prices are most reasonable.

Hmmm, I really would reconsider mixing tartans like that. If it were two tartans of the same clan, that would be fine, but two unrelated tartans falls into that "it really isn't done, old chap" area.

Just my thoughts on the matter.

I concur. Mixing related tartans is tricky business. Mixing unrelated tartans isn't done because they don't look right. If you are going to spend good money on a waistcoat, you want it to look as good as it possibly can.

The clan association isn't really an issue as the Boyds were very closely related and involved with the Stewart clan, as well as the Hay clan. The Boyd tartan was supposed to have been a spin off from one of the Stewart tartans. There is so much red and green in the tartan, that trying to find something to work well with it probably will be a huge issue.
