I am TOTALLY impressed. I just received my new 5yd balmoral welsh cilt from kiltstore. It came earlier than expected and FedEx didn't rake me over the coals with duties and fees (take THAT homeland security....unless you represent homeland security; then thank you very much). Anyway, it fits as advertised, the buckles are great and the finish is very nice. All in all, an excellent casual kilt. In fact, it looks almost as good as my 8yd kilt.
So, a HUGE thank you to kiltstore and I can strongly recommend their store and their service.

...and by raked over the coals, you mean...?
Not to get into your personal business but if you could perhaps let us know what to expect in maybe a percentage of the cost...one of the things that makes me hesitate to order from a supplier outside of the country (besides the current exchange rate) is the seemingly arbitrary way that duties and customs fees are assesed. Any light you could cast on it based on your experience would be helpful.
I have heard from a couple of other members that The Kilt Store does splendid work...you seem to have made a good choice and are obviously very happy with the kilt. Enjoy!
Best

Auld Argonian,
In summary, expect to pay a 12% duty for anything worth over $200 USD. Feel happy when you dont. This is from my previous investigation that I did when responding to the "new 8yd balomoral" thread:
"OK, here's the bad news: I talked with the Int'l Trade commission (very nice people BTW). And Kilts DO fall under tariff rules. Poor kilts fall under the category of :
6211 (con.) Track suits, ski-suits and swimwear; other garments (con.):
Other garments, men's or boys' (con.):
6211.39 Of other textile materials:
6211.39.05 Of wool or fine animal hair . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . 12%
51 Other (459) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . doz.
That 12% is the dreaded number. That's the tariff applied to kilts.
Why we kilt-wearers fall under the heading of track suits and "other" is beyond me. We should at least get our own category. Contact your congress-person and protest! Better yet, perhaps we should all start a letter writing campaign to exempt the kilt from tariff rules :-)
Here's the websites FYI: http://usitc.gov/tata/hts/ http://usitc.gov/tata/hts/bychapter/index.htm
And their phone number: 202-205-2000"

Also, when an item is shipped by UPS, DHL, or FedEx, they have their own brokerage companies to expedite the process of having the items clearing customs (far faster than regular post). They, of course, charge you a brokerage fee for this 'privilidge' (only saves you about a day) which is usually $20-$50, depending on the value of the item.

don't forget that the invoice for duties may come later. I have had to pay on dleivery and I have had a bill for duties show up a few weeks later on some orders.

Colin....I hope that you are wrong in this case. But if you are not, I guess I will see that 12% plus the fedex fee....ugh.
