Questions

Hi
I have three questions about Scotweb and I was hoping that you guys (especially Nick ) could answer them for me.

Question 1 : You say that Tartan Colours can vary depending on Tartan Manufacturers. So is it posible that if I'll buy a kilt from you and a fly plaid ,with the same tartan, that the colours on the fly plaid won't look the same as the colours on the kilt?

Question 2 : When I'm picking out a fly plaid on the website I can choose from a fly plaid and then a fly plaid with purled fringe. What is the difference ?

And Finally Question 3: If I'll buy a kilt from you, I will buy The Balmoral traditional 8 yard kilt with flashes. Does a strap come with the flashes?

P.S : Are the kilts from them pleated to the stripe or sett?

Thanks in advance, Gunnar.

A strap came with my flashes from Sctoweb

Order the fly when you order the kilt from the same place. They should get it from the same mill.

a fringed plaid is just that - wool is unraveled from the edges. In a purled fringe about 6 of the fringe strands are twisted together and knotted at the end.

purled

fringed

They will do both. Just leave your request in the comments section when you order. I have kilts pleated to both the sett and stripe from Scotweb. They do good work.
P.S. The flashes come with elastic garter straps.

Hi Gunnar, sorry for the slow reply... I'm just back in the office after the weekend! It seems your questions have been answered in my absence, so thanks guys! (If anyone fancies a day job, we're recruiting customer service staff again at the moment...)

So basically I can just confirm what you've already been told.

(1) It's true that the 'same' tartan from different mills can sometimes look very different. But when ordering a kilt and plaid together, just specify the same fabric from the same mill and there's no problem. I'd expect our team would usually notice even were you to accidentally specify different suppliers in the same order, and ask if this is really what you wanted. But best to make sure yourself that the fabrics have the same code, just to be on the same side.

(2) I'm grateful for turpin's illustrations, which are a clearer answer than I'd have probably managed! :-)

(3) Yes, garter straps are included with the flashes.

Please PM me directly if I can help further. Or our staff are always happy to help by phone or email.

Oops - PS, yes, we pleat to sett by default, but we can do it to stripe at no extra charge on request. We also offer box pleats and other special arrangements, but these will often incur a surcharge due to the extra work involved.

I've got the right of residency - my wife hold dual citizenship, so I can live in Britain. Actually working there's another matter, I believe.

Considering the travel time is at least 18 hours (with the time difference, it's more like 24), the commute might be a bit much. ; )
