When I click on the Kilt Store banner at the top of the page I get a message saying the promotional code has expired. Are they no longer giving a discount to XMarks members, or will they be updating the code?

    Trews...

Blu is correct; trews are contemporaries of kilts, but they were the garments of the gentry, and not the common man. In the 1700's, trews were much more form-fitting and tighter, almost like riding breeches (kind of like johdpurs), and that is exactly what they were designed for -- riding (ever try riding a horse in a kilt? )

Trews are also associated with the Scottish Regiments of the British Army, and date to the late 1700's/early 1800's -- for instance, the 93rd Argyllshires at the Battle of New Orleans in 1815 were in tartan trousers, and not kilts. Many of the regiments, such as the Royal Scots (Stewart Hunting), the KOSB's (Leslie), the Royal Highland Fusiliers (Mackenzie), etc. wear trews as part of their dress uniform, although modern trews do not resemble their historical counterparts.

I personally like to see them at Burns Nichts, etc. They look sharp with formal wear, especially the "loud" tartans like MacMillian and Buchanan -- day wear, the darker tartans look better.

    Cheers!

    T.

Now, that is an interesting comment or observation. Do you also find this true where kilts are concerned, or is it mostly a trews thing?

I'm finding that with extra kilts i need extra pins, the one I've chosen is here:

No...No Graham...If you recall I use a little blob to stop it comming un-done while wearing it.The hot gule sticks but also can be removed easily for kilt cleaning. I just want to protect your investment thats all.

If you don't want to use hot glue use a thick rubber band cut a piece out and put the pin through the kilt then through the band twice and finally through the kilt again.

I've lost a pin before some I know the heartache

Oh right...glad to hear that David, I nearly broke out in a cold sweat there.

Actually i use the wee rubber band method, I forget whose idea that was, but it works.
