Waistcoats and jackets

Hello - I have a question to ask, although I'm not sure if it's silly. The answer isn't quite obvious enough as a newcomer to kilts!

Are the waiscoats and jackets, like the Argyll ones, suitable to wear with a "fashion" kilt which sit lower than the more traditional kilts or are the jackets not long enough? Same question for the more informal leather swordsman waistcoat.

Cheers

They will work very well with the casual kilts. The critical part for a kilt jacket is the location of the bottom of the fell (where the pleats are not sewn down) and the bottom of the back of the jacket. You don't want the tail of the jacket to restrict or cover the open pleats.

Regardless of casual or traditional kilt from the bottom of the fell to the selvedge should be the same. The difference is how much material is concealed under the jacket (whether it stops at the top of your hips or goes all the way up to you ribs)

Waist coats are generic enough that even a standard suit vest will work with a kilt.

One other thing to consider is the length of the vest. There should not be any shirtpeeking out between the top of the kilt and the bottom of the vest. If it does, ditch the vest and wear a belt. BTW, no belt with a vest is the guideline.

yik,

I believe The Wizard of BC is going to be offering contemporary jackets and waistcoasts. Keep an eye out for the new Freedom Kilts website for details.

Cheers
