    "Jeans Waist" or "True Waist?"

A quick question for Rocky and his customers...

My next kilt will likely be from USA's casual line, probably ordering this week. I'm new to kilts and have two UK originals, both fitted using the traditional "true waist" measurement.

Aside from the obvious - my gut - what are the advantages of the "jeans-waist" fitted kilt? Any experiences from those who have worn them?

If this has been covered here before I apologize. I sure couldn't find it.

    Thanks!

How much of a 'belly' do you have? Does it hang over a few inches or are you pretty much straight down?

Wearing a kilt at the 'true waist' is usually a much more flattering appearance on our larger customers.

There are no advantages to a jeans waist when kilts are involved.

Wear your kilt at your true waist where God meant for you to.

I was under the (apparently mistaken) impression that the 'jeans waist' fitting was the answer for guys with protruding bellies. Guess you answered my question then.

Ordering today, Rocky. The way "God meant...," Mr. Killman.

If you have a belly a kilt at "jeans waist" will cause the front hem of the kilt to be lower than the rear. This is because the belly pushes down on the kilt waist in the front but the back of kilt stays where it belongs. This does not look right from the side. Some of the kilt makers that specialize in the "jean waist" fit will compensate for this by making the rear longer than the front if asked. A traditional fit goes around the widest part of the belly so the hem is even all the way around.

Ah, visuals. I don't know how to attach a pic. I have a couple on my profile page. Went with the traditional fitting for kilt #3.

    Thanks big Mikey.

I don't have any trouble with wearing the kilt that high; it's the number...the ghastly number... the inordinately large number which I must now say is my 'waist'.

Yeah it's tough to swallow, but it is necessary to get it fitting right. It was that, and getting the right legnth was my problem. Once I got the waist right, I had to get it longer to look right.
