I have had a simple idea kicking around my brain on how to improve sporrans since about 2005, but none of the sporran suppliers I had approached would listen to the idea. I finally found a company willing to make 'USA Kilts' private label sporrans with a really cool feature.

The thing I hated most about sporrans was when a bill came to $20.25, I had to dig around for a while to get the quarter lodged at the bottom of my sporran. After a night out, trying to dig out the credit card or ID from the bottom of the sporran was also a pain. I wanted to design a simple pocket for loose change or your credit card / ID.

Here's a standard Semi Dress sporran (or Dress Sporran, not pictured) we carry:



Here's the improvement we've made on our private label Semi Dress sporrans and Dress sporrans... adding an internal pocket.

Rocky that's a great idea, I hate searching for change or cards in my sporran. Unfortunatly I don't usually wear dress sporrans let us know if you do this for more casual sporrans I would deffinatly be interested then.

argh, out of my price range. Though that is one of my favorite things about the SWK cargo sporran is the front card pocket.

Maybe after my next kilt that will be something to save for.

I would have put the pocket on the inside of the outer wall of the sporran... No issues with stitching showing through, given that you have a facing fur layer.

The probelm with putting it on the front would be that it would interfere with the chains. A good deal of thought went into the design (even as simple as it is).

I've sewn up several sporrans. Not too big a leap from the hunting pouches I've made in the past. Thought about an interior pocket at one time, but decided against it thinking it would be awkward to get coins out of. Never considered using it for a credit card. Looks like a good addition. The last couple of sporrans I made, I stitched a small lanyard hook to the inside, right under where the flap joins the body. I made this addition after having to fish around for my car keys a couple of times. Now I can snap them into the clip and keep them handy.

That looks a great idea. The simple ones are the best. The number of times I've had to scrape around the bottom of a sporan for some change.

Another simple idea that I may suggest to those who want something like this but can't afford it, is just to carry a coin purse in their sporran. It's a lot easier to find in your sporran and makes your change a lot easier to get to. Typically in my sporran I'll carry my wallet, keys, and cell phone. Not normally too much else. Adding a change purse makes for a total of four items, all of which have a distinct shape and size, so any individual one is really easy to reach in and grab. Much easier to find the coin purse and pull it out to get your change than fumbling around in the bottom for two dimes and a nickel. :-)

I've been doing this for years - almost from the first time I put on a sporran. My favorite is a sporran shaped coin purse I picked up at the Dewars Distillery several years ago. While small, its still large enough to hold some change, folding money, and my driver's licence and a credit card - and easy to find when I reach into the sporran.
