Question about day sporrans at USA Kilts

    Hi All,

Do the Rob Roy and Celtic Knot day sporrans sold by USA Kilts have magnetic catches?

    Yes. They are quite nice.

    Less fumbling.

    Quite clever.

    Thanks the info, Dreadbelly.

I have a nice looking semi-formal sporran, but it has a snap type catch that is not especially easy to secure.

well you shouldn't wear them there, traditionally sporrans are worn in front!!

If I wore my sporan in the front, it would catch on all my pleats Graham. Can't have that.

    Dreadbelly,

Do you own one of the two (Rob Roy and Celtic Knot) sporrans? How do you like it?

I own the Rob Roy (I think these are made by Buzz Kidder) and wear it daily, except when I'm wearing my PK which has a matching sporran.

It's a very useful daily use sporran. I would recommend getting a razor or scissors and cutting the attachments at the bottom of the tassles so they all swing free, otherwise they might catch on things (as mine did) in daily wear.

The only repair I've ever had to make to it is when a drunken lass wanted to dance with me at a pub and next thing I know her posterior is behaving like a grist mill on my sporran. One of the tassles started coming unwrapped put it was a very easy repair. That was months ago and I'm still wearing it every day.

The magnetic closure is IMO the best part of it.

I wish it had a bit more capacity (after seeing a Freelander sporran I'm having some feelings of inadequacy) but for what I paid for it I'm more than happy with it.

Oh also... throw out the chain and get a leather shop to make you a proper sporran belt. I think mine is 3/4" wide. It's so much more comfortable! And no extra wear or snags on the kilt!

Yes they have magnetic clasps (the 2 $50 sporrans do) and yes, they are MUCH easier to close than the other "snap close" sporrans we sell.

You can tear them apart if you're not a weakling like Magnus.

Admitedly, I've never seen a freelander sporran, but these things are pretty friggin big. I've probably seen a few more sporrans than Magnus (just a fact... not a dig)... these rate as some of the bigger capacity sporrans out there. They're MUCH bigger than our dress / semi dress sporrans and are 1/4 the price! The leather is a supple / plyable leather, not the harder leather that you see on most sporrans. Capacity is 3 beer bottles

I own the celtic knot sporran. I love it, although I have nothing to compare it to. I honestly don't even use the magnetic clasps that much. I just don't close it securely. Seems to work out fine. The only complaint I would have with this sporran is that on the inside, you have the back of the clasp, and it it somewhat sharp. I've had it go underneath my fingernail a couple of times when reaching inside for something. It's a bit painful. I've learned to be more careful when reaching in.
