Stunning anything that antique is still being worn and looking great. Nice to let you dissect it and nice of you to share the info with the rabble.

This is very disturbing! That means that mid-rize kilts with two straps have been in existance for almost a hundred years. Thankfully, it does have the four inch rise, so would not look like the casual and contemporary, mid-rise kilts of modern times...

I'm guessing it is built in an otherwise traditional way with the stabilizer and interfacings.

My first thought was that it should be preserved in a museum somewhere...then looking at the pics its still just fine after nearly 100 years.

What a testimonial to the quality of fine wool and the traditional kiltmaker's craft.

Regarding the hip strap. In the past it was known to wear the kilt at least an inch above the knee, so that could also impact the placement of the strap and the 4" rise. This is just a theory mind you, given the uncle was a 1/2" shorter and if the nephew wore the kilt an inch above the knee you might in fact see the hip strap is indeed a waist strap...again in theory....

I was wondering about that, but how would that account for the length of the fell? I would guess the fell would come up short if the straps were raised up to the waist level...
