How about a Mess Jacket, sort of like a Prince Charlie, but without tails? Buttons with a matte finish would also be nice. Sometimes I think the tails are a bit much.

I have wondered the same question, would a Mess Dress, with plain buttons/plain sleeves be casual or is it still "formal"?

Mess Dress is considered Formal. Here is the Wiki article on it, though I'm sure there are better resources out there this is a good start.

If you wear a military Mess Jacket, you will want to substitute a short waistcoat for the cumberbund. Speaking from experience, the cumberbund does not work with the sporran straps/chain. However, I was refering to a civilian type "mess jacket" - at least one of the online kilt retailers sells one. If I find it in the next day or two, I will add to this thread.

I myself would forego the tartan on the sleeves, and could also have one made custom at a better price, but this is the general idea.

G'day Steve,
Just wondering what colours your jackets and waistcoats come in? In lieu of seeing an actual swatch have you any pics of the various colours you might be able to post here for all to see?
Would you happen to ship to Australia?
If so, roughly what might the total cost be at today's rough exchange rate?
How might one take measurements for them?
They really do look wonderful mate. You've done a great job. Just hope we can all look as good in them as you!
Many thanks,
Chris

We currently have two colors of Tweed for the Kilt Kut Suit Jackets.
The first is a Caramel Brown Tweed.

The second is a Charcoal Gray Tweed.

Both photos are shown against the Lamont Tartan in both Modern and Ancient versions.
Yes, we ship world wide. If you will send me an email at; steve@freedomkilts.com I will respond with all the details.
I have a measuring guide that I can include as a word document.
I can quote shipping costs to almost anywhere.
I can let you know approximately how long it will take to make your Jacket and get it to you.
And I will send you the costs of the Jacket and Vest in the currency of your choice.

The jacket looks very nice. I think that it would be a very good alternative to the Argyle jacket. As you said for the modern world the Argyle is a bit too dressy at times. Here in North America where there is not (IMHO) a large kilt history this jacket would look a little more mainstream to the average person who sees it on the street.
