The story begins with an XMarks flash post - Fraser & Kirkbright was offering some Maple Leaf tartan on their wool remnants page. Always looking for a good deal, I checked it out. Much to my surprise, there on the same page was a listing for some Ancient Ulster tartan - one of my top five "Some day" tartans. A quick call to Gordon, some planning and scheming, a little Skyping, and the wheels were set in motion. Now you see the end result. One beautiful tartan Freedom Kilt thanks to our own Wizard, Steve Ashton.
The kilt is beautifully made and fits like a glove. The attention to detail is stunning - from the pockets (yes pockets), to the pleats, to the custom personalized embroidery on the kilt liner. Steve is a master craftsman and Freedom kilts is stuffed to the gunnels with more talent than you can shake a stick at. I can't recommend Freedom Kilts highly enough. Its not just the product - its the process. Having an excuse to spend some time chatting with our Wizard was the icing on the cake.
I'm happy to call Steve my kiltmaker, but I'm honored calling him my friend.
Thanks Steve.

Wow. Just gorgeous.
I know I'm going to have to get back to FK for one or more of the newer models sooner or later.
Regards,
Rex.

Very nice kilt, marvelous tartan. Steve does good work, because he's an obsessive, detail oriented curmudgeon!
Be well,
Star

| | WOW! I have seen the tartan before but never seen it in a kilt. It is a beauty. I need to rearrange my "top five." Very impressive.

Wow Phil, you make that Kilt look good.
But you forgot to tell - "the rest of the story".
You see Phil makes these wonderful Hand-Tied Fishing Fly Kilt Pins. I was given one on a visit to Spokane last year and since have carried them in my shop.
So when Phil found the Ulster Tartan fabric he approached me with an offer of a trade. Kilt labor for Kilt Pins. How could I turn that down.
Thank you for the review Phil. I don't really deserve it. I may have designed the Contemporary Kilt. I may own the Company, but Erin was the master who sewed your Kilt.

Wow!! What a beautiful tartan, beautiful kilt, and stunning turnout!
And Steve is one cool guy for sure!
How many kilted straight guys will rendezvous with another kilted straight guy at a Pride Festival and have a good time?
