No Sgian Dubhs?
I just noticed in the Scotsman that the UK and Scotland is banning the carrying of knives. I'm wondering, does this applies to sgian dubhs as well?

Step One: Publicize odd cases, induce fear.
Step Two: Disarm the people in the name of "safety."
Step Three: Do whatever you want, because now that you've disarmed them all, the people can't do anything to stop you.
It's ridiculous. Next up, ban screwdrivers, cricket bats, baseball bats, and golf clubs.

Before we get carried away on this- I'd simply like to know if this applies to sgian dubhs, dirks and others that are part of a national costume.
Perhaps some of our fellow X-Markers over there can let us know. Thanks.

Does it matter? I'm pretty sure locking folders are already illegal over there.
Heaven forbid someone should actually need to cut something without calling in a government-sponsored nanny to cut it for them.

Several months back I read there was even a move afoot to ban sharp points on kitchen knives in the UK

Next up? Nerf cars and rubber shower stalls. Goodness knows enough people have died because of being hit by cars and falling in the shower.

Consider this a warning shot. A question was asked if this applies to sgian dubhs. Let's answer the man's question and leave the personal politics out of it. Okay....

"cutting-edge" law enforcement???
Yeah, I was wondering the same thing after I saw the same article in The Scotsman, today.
Here's a few links to a related stories -

Between comments like, "anyone caught carrying a knife in public" & the following quote from the end of that article, it certainly sounds like there'll be zero tolerance on carrying any kind of knife in public, period. I find it inconceivable that that would include sgian dubhs. My web-surfing has been unable to confirm that.
"Mr Boyd acknowledged there was a risk of people being stopped who were carrying a knife for legitimate purposes.
"He said: 'Of course people do carry knives for lawful purposes - if they are doing something like going fishing - but the knife will be appropriate for the activity in which they are engaged.'"
That last sentence sounds like a possible loop-hole for allowing sgian dubhs.
I liked this comment on another weblog -
After a thorough study, the UK finds that human hands have been used in 99% of all violent crimes. They conclude that by eliminating them, violence will be significantly reduced. Please see your local Police department to schedule a hand removal session.
This from the land of Braveheart???!!!
