Re: Irish Whiskey?
I very much enjoy the Jameson 12 yr reserve. Regular Jameson is disgusting but that 12 yr stint really makes it wonderful.
God bless the kilted everywhere and all who see them!

Re: Irish Whiskey?
I'm an Islay Scotch drinker; especially Laphroaig. However, at a Bushmill's whiskey tasting at the Trinity Hall pub in Dallas, I had a nice pour of Bushmill's 1608 anniversary edition. It was fantastic and I ended up buying a bottle (not many bottles left in the Dallas/Fort Worth area). It is somewhat pricey but a really, really nice whiskey.

Re: Irish Whiskey?
I like Connemara and Redbreast, but most whisky is too light and "rubbing alcohol-esque" for my liking. That said the worst whisky is still pretty darned awesome.

Re: Irish Whiskey?
As I rule I favor Jameson's, but I've enjoyed Redbreast, Tullamore and Bushmills. So far I've yet to find an Irish whiskey I don't like.

Re: Irish Whiskey?
I haven't generally liked Irish whiskeys all that much. That said, though, I really DO like (peated) Connemara single malt.
Another Irish single malt I recently tried on a whim, and was startled to find that I really liked, is one being sold by Trader Joe's under TJ's own label, just "Trader Joe's Single Malt Irish Whiskey".
For $19.99/bottle.
I was intrigued enough to spend a little time doing some detective work, and it appears to be a peated Irish single malt called Slieve na gCloc which they're selling under their own label:

Re: Irish Whiskey?
Interestingly enough, the guys who work at a major liquor store (and who frequent a couple of the bars that I stop in) have always said that, between Bushmill's and Jameson's, Bushmill's is the better whisky...personally, I agree. They have gone on to say that they've found Jameson's to be very inconsistent in terms of flavor and quality.
Now...on the South Side here, you're taking your life in your hands ordering Bush...these folks think that Jameson's is the Irish Catholic whisky and Bushmill's is the Northern Protestant whisky. They obviously don't have a whole lot of other things to start fights over, so they get intimidating about this.
,,,now...if you're smart (and frugal) look for the AFTER St. Pat's Day sale on both Jameson's and Bush...they have both gotten well under $20 the bottle in these parts. I got a nice bottle of the Bushmill's 12 year old that way once and it was very, very nice...look out for that sleeper. Have to look into that Trader Joe's business...

I've never heard that before, but it's very inaccurate. John Jameson was most likely a member of the Church of Scotland.
Religon and politics (especially if factual inaccurate) should be kept out of it, and just enjoy rather whiskey.

Knappogue, Clontarf SM, Redbreast, Michael Collins SM. Tried a bunch of other ones which were also good, but these were the best IMHO.

No...seriously...I got you covered on that but these fifth and sixth generation Irish have it soundly in their heads that the mere act of drinking Bushmill's puts you in the Northern Protestant Ian Paisley camp and you is persona non grata.
Somehow the expression "get a life" springs to mind.
