Angora Goat Skin Sporran Project Question

I have been wanting to make an angora sporran for some time so I finally bit the bullet and bought a pelt. My wife was extremely pleased when it arrived and even more so when the thing began to shed the instant I took it out of the box. I was beginning to think that this was not one of my better ideas.
Any ideas on how to reduce the shedding? Thanks.

I know I use some special shampoo on my dog to reduce shedding but I'm thinking that won't help you Taygrd Good luck & I look forward to seeing what you come up w/from that hide

The big question is, is it shedding off 'loose' hair (which can happen to a small degree) or is the hair just plain coming off the skin?

A badly tanned or stabilized hide WILL shed off in a hurry, leaving your work bald. A good hide will loose a few here and there at first, but shouldn't be "clogging your shower drain"

As to how to stop a hide from shedding off... I know of nothing.

It's the BIG reason to buy fur from a trusted source. There are a LOT of 'garage tanneries' out there, some good, some bad. I almost always buy domestic pelts from one source which I trust.

I sort of went for the "cheap kill" on the hide Since I am unable to read the tanners label on the back I assume it is an import. I has about a 7-8 nap and most of the hair is firmly attached to the hide. I tried some brushing and looks to be helping. Perhaps stabilizing the back of the hide with a hardner may help the hair hold on as well? If not I got one heck of a Santa beard
    Ho ho ho!
