I really like the way ya did the straps there. So much so I'd be tempted to use it myself.

I was just looking at that method of closure in one of my textbooks the other day I think. It mentioned a folded over strap run through a loop with velcro on both sides. With me being a thick headed dunderdoofus, I couldn't quite figure out what they were talking about. Now that I see a pic, the method they described is instantly recognisable.
Thank you, really. You just saved me a lot of headache.

I did (as you can see in one of my photos) overstitch the first and last tapers because I couldn't get to them from the inside. The pleats are not stitched from the bottom of the fell to the hem...only pressed.

I'd love to see a full-body pic of the kilt, front and back.
I can't quite tell, did you go with a full-width apron or did you make it small-ish? If it's a full-width then really what you've got is a box-pleat tartan kilt...period.
Well, with your nifty innovations with the straps.

I too (or three maybe four ...) am digging the straps. The more I think about it the more it sounds gooder.

How about sending a write up on the straps to send to Alan H as an alternate to velcro in the X-Marks kilt instructions?

Here are full-kilt shots. The over-apron is 16" wide, so yes, I guess I've really made a tartan box-pleat. But without the confidence I gained from making 5 X-Kilts I probably wouldn't have attempted this one, so I think the "hybrid" designation wil persist, at least in my mind. Thanks again to Alan H for sharing his talents with us. This evening I shall raise a glass of my finest single-malt in your honour, Sir.

I did (as you can see in one of my photos) overstitch the first and last tapers because I couldn't get to them from the inside. The pleats are not stitched from the bottom of the fell to the hem...only pressed. | I didn't think I could see any stitches. And seeing how long it took you, figured that you must have done it from the inside. I've been going over in my head a way to do that. I didn't follow Alan's post to the end so I didn't know how he had stitched. I'm going to start the construction of a skirt for my wife. I have enough to make her a box pleated skirt 28" long. But I am going to try and mark the outline of the pleats on the inside. Then sew the lefthand edge to the righthand edge. I know it wil take some dead-on aligning to get them right, but shouldn't be too much of a problem with the help of some pins. The fun part will be basting the pleats.
You've made a downright awsome kilt. Can't wait to see the first trail pic. Which trail will get the honors?
