A couple of pieces of wool fabric

I was given a couple of pieces of wool fabric today.

This is the first. It's 88" x 54", and Red_Raven_Studios says it looks hand-woven to her (what do I know?).



This is the second piece. It's 108" x 60".



I have no idea what the weight on them is, but they are both heavier than what SWK and FC call 13 oz material. I can't imagine that we won't do something with them.

that first one looks like a MacDonald ancient.
my godbrother just ordered one.

I'm sure it was supposed to be some version of MacDonald, looking at it now. There are some mistakes in the weaving (4 threads one direction, 3 the other, etc.)

I'm still going to beg RRS to make me a kilt out of it...

Yes, the first piece is not perfect, but I find it a charming piece of fabric. It deserves to be worn.

The second piece was perhaps always intended for a kilt - if cut across from selvage to selvage you could have - if the ends are cut square, enough for four 26 inch strips and a 4 inch wide piece left for a waistband and belt loops.

You would then have 20 ft of kilt width fabric, though it would need to be hemmed.

Even cut parallel with the selvage, it would be 18 ft, enough for a kilt, with a 9 ft strip from the middle about 1ft wide for the waistband and loops, and possibly other things as well.

And you were given these?

That second one screams jacket to me. Troll the local fabric store for a pattern, and see what the package recommends for total fabric in your size.

I also have a 48" x 48" square of Stewart Dress tartan.



It's in moderately poor shape, so I don't know what I can do with it.
