| | | Fake ivory and fake onyx???
I'm tied up at Lodge right now, but am also stealing some time to ask a question of all of our fine DIY'ers..... Does anyone know of a good source for Fake Ivory and Fake Onyx...... I want some plastic or resin substance that looks white, and black and could be polished.... and while I'm asking, how about some other colors? Red, Green, Blue???
I have a couple of projects in mind for Christmas presents, that I need some fake stuff. (Who could afford the real thing?) Ideally they would be in slabs about 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick or if dealing with metric about one milimeter.
I know that they are out there, but I guess I don't know the right code words to use with google, 'cause I am coming up empty so far.
Among other things, these slabs could be used as tops and/or bottoms of sgian dubh handles, or layered in between other substances to add color.
Anybody?

We use alumalite in molds. You can just about make it look like anything.

For small bits off non ivory check out Tagua Nuts. Aside from that perhaps Corian®. |

| | Jay,
Try Sheffield Supply (knifemaking supplies)... www.sheffieldsupply.com/index.html
They have downloadable catalogue from their website. Surely they have something that'll fill your bill.

I'm no math whiz (Bob would snort iced tea out his nose at THAT understatement) but does the following not, err, follow to anybody else?
". . .1/4 to 1/2 inch thick or if dealing with metric about one milimeter."
