    A few new "Sgian Don'ts"

I have spent a little time in my wood shop making a few "sgian don'ts"

    Here are my latest efforts

These are for a fellow X Marker

(White tail deer antler, and Australian Lace wood )

And this simple blank one I whipped up for myself (also out of Austrailian Lace wood)

When I was looking at this photo I saw the small cut underneath the thistle button, I immediately went and sanded it out.

    Cheers

    Jamie

Those are very nice. I made two myself this weekend- very simple ones using some ebony that I have had for maybe almost thirty years and some polished stones. Sorry can't post a photo because 1. they don't hold a candle to yours, Jamie, and two I have them wrapped up as Christmas gifts for my two kilt wearing sons. i love the wood detail on the one in the second photo.

That blank is gorgeous. I just don't go for the wire openers, though. I'm a fan of the bar-style "rapid opener" (like in my own sgian don't). Just my personal opinion. The horn is good, but again, I like the blank one the best. Looks like the top opener one is of the same wood, but the diameter of the handle doesn't showcase the burl as well.

    Well done Jamie!
I rather like the wood you used, very interesting & unique pattern.

I confess Andrew that I like the "rapid opener" as well. Wasn't there a discussion on this style earlier in the year?
Where do you find these "rapid openers"?

You can PM me, I don't wish to hijack this thread
