The First of 4 X-Marks Kilts
So, I've now finished the second kilt per "The Art of Kiltmaking". I don't think I've reached the status of kiltmaker yet. Maybe in another 3 or 4 kilts.
I took about 3 months for the practice kilt...finished product posted here (http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/t...x.html?t=47798). Then I took about 3 months to make this one. At this rate I will have achieved my goal of making X-Marks kilts pleated four ways by March of next year. Oh well, speed is not everyone's forte.
Again, no detailed posts-too busy actually making it. This one is faithful in every detail to Barb and Elsie's book, except that it's not wool. It's the latest run of the X-Marks tartan in polyviscose.
Here's the last step in creation, sewing on the lining. It's not the most challenging part, but it can be tedious, thus the vodka and cranberry:

I've decided that the lining is an easier way to declare the maker than sewing in a label:

The kilt I finished back in March was barely big enough for the boy by the time I finished, so I decided to "shoot at the moving target" this time. This one is a little long, but actually fits (on the first hole of the straps). It ought to be a perfect fit by Burn's Night. Note the difference between the two kilts:

Pictures of the happy boy, coming up.
Be well,

Thank you Macleod91! Good to see as many Macleods as possible on this forum. Pretty soon we'll convince them all that yellow, red and black are a good combination!
And thank you Ryan!
So here's the proud boy.

Now, how many of you wish you could hug your kiltmaker?

Then, things got a little crazy.
He tried the "Hamish, Mark II", but didn't quite understand what he was supposed to be doing. Watch out child, don't answer "The Question" with your pose:

That was a little too "Karate Kid". Try again...
Better, although not quite there:

That's all she wrote.
Except, that bamboo slivers under the fingers don't compare to needles that slip up under your thumbnail while finishing off the button hole on a kilt

Great work, I look forward to the rest.

They'll come at regular 3-4 month intervals. Next up is the daughter's pleated to the "no stripe", then mine, pleated to sett, and finally Jamie's, pleated to the white stripe.
Be well,
