    HoE Barclay Dress Muted 13oz

This is a length of Barclay Dress muted tartan. It is from House of Edgars "old and rare" collection. I got it through Matt and the museum. I will be using it to make a kilt for my father. I will have it ready for the Tennessee Highland Festival. It will be his first kilt, so I have to do a bang-up job.

He wanted the Barclay dress colors, and I thought this version would be the best. The yellow is a dark gold. Kind of like spicy mustard. Its not the bright yellow you normally see.

I might post some photos of the building progress, but will get some up when it is finished and some of us both wil our kilts on.

Nice choice, cousin. I like the muted a lot better than our standard dress colours. Matt's been asking me about getting a Barclay 4-yard knife pleat, and this may be the ticket. Looking forward to seeing it, you and your dad in Tennessee in October and to seeing the pictures of the project.

I am not keen on the bright yellow tartans but I do like this one. I've never seen it before. Hopefully I'll see it in the flesh one day, maybe at the festival.

Pictures of your progress would be most welcome, you are a braver man than I, I wince when I have to replace a button.

I ripped the material this morning. Here you see the two halves that will make the kilt. The third peice will be used to make the waistband and maybe some flashes. I think I will give what left to to my mom for her to make a sash. I think it fitting that her sash be made frm the same material as his kilt.

You go HB! Nothing is more exhilarating than grabbing some really expensive tartan material and giving it a rip - love that smell

    Heath,

I happen to have that same ironing board cover! Couldn't pass up the tartan design!

I love yellow in kilts and as you say it's nicely muted so I am sure the finished product will look fantastic!

And of course we will all want photos...

Sooo how do you intend to pleat it?

To the sett? Maybe a stripe?

Or do we have to wait for the photos?
