Key fobs make great kilt pins
I was browsing in the university bookstore a few days back and noticed the heavy pewter key ring fobs. I purchased one, cut off the wee ring that was used to attach the key chain, mounted two pin-and-clasp pins using epoxy, and turned it into a nifty kilt pin.

A lot of times I use a quilting safetypin on the back of the apron going through the fabric, then back to the pin. I use this to hold things that might go on a neclace and have a hole at the top.

I've done this type of thing several times with different items.
One of the things that I hit upon to use for "push pin" backs are strudy industrial strength thumb tacks. They have nice big backs that take epoxy well, after being roughed up with a file or sand paper. I then put plenty of epoxy under and over the tacks and use generic clutch backs.
Works well for me.

Great minds think alike!
Last night I did a very quick conversion on a old key fob for a family trip today.

I was stopped and complemented by several ladies who worked at the Monterey Bay Aquarium as staff and volunteers about my attire. They all smiled quite broadly when I showed them my kilt pin!

Cheers
