    Smile Kilt Clasp

Finished my handmade great kilt clasp.
Both ends of the kilt (over the shoulder) go in & over the center bar...
the serrations gently hold it in place, with no moving parts.

(sorry for the crappy photo; click to enlarge):

    Tony,

    That is very nice work.

Do you handcarve a master from wood then use that make a silicon mold for the pewter?

    Cheers

No, kind of long-winded explanation... the short version:
I joke around about being a mad scientist, but the truth be told, I really am one.... for a living. I create new processes for my employer, and this was one of them. Without going into proprietary details: no casting, no molds. Took about 3 hours, from design to completion. (I used this as a "calibration" project.) It's made from solid magnesium: Very light, yet strong, holds incredibly sharp detail.

    Approx. 3-1/2 inches.

The only thing that comes to mind is some kind of stereolithography process combined with some kind of electro plating deposit duhicky process...

Hmm, perhaps a multi-axis CNC machine? Very nicely done.
