    Kilt Sweater or Jumper

I've had a request not for hose this time but a sweater for a guy to wear with his kilt.....As I've never knitted a sweater to wear with a kilt (I have knitted sweaters) I'd like to get an idea of what you guys wear with your kilt and by that I mean sweaters or jumpers! thanks

There you go, hope this helps. Length, in this case, is fairly critical! Too short looks awful, too long and it gets in the way of the sporran. A wee tad on the long side so that it can be drawn up an inch or two at the bottom, to "blouse" it out, is about right.

    Joan,
I would go with some of that gorgeous Harris yarn. I like the saddle shoulder look, however I did make Captmac a wonderful Gansey (Gurnsey) with a lot of pattern in it, and it looks great with the kilt. Unfortunately, I don't have a photo, but we will be wearing it on Harris in August. Like Jock said, it can't be too long. Captmac wears his like a Montrose - a few inches below the top of the kilt, then he wears his kilt belt over it. Leave room to blouse it.

Sorry, no pics, but in the appropriate weather I wear anything from heavy wool Aran knit sweaters to simple cotton, acrylic or wool sweater vests. I have a couple argyle pattern sweater vests I have yet to try out with the tartan of a kilt, as I am not sure whether the colors or patterns with match or clash.

Off the needles and away to the guy who has promised to send me a photo of him wearing it.......the sweater was knitted in Harris Wool, shade chosen by the fellow himself....
