    marble handle sgian dubh

this is my first attempt at a sgian dubh , until i get my pottery kiln fixed i thought id mess about with another material for the handle , ive seen folk use wood ,tusk ,bone and so on butas yet ive not seen any marble

the marble was only meant to be a mockup handle to give me ideas..... but now im not sure whether to finish it as is with some leather lace around the stone and secureing the blade into place then make a sheath or when the kilns fixed take the blade out and start again with ceramic
i guess i could buy another blade

i must admit i rather like the marble and its given me ideas as a easy carveable material to work with plus marble comes in soo many colours and strengths
    any views folks?

I have a jade handled one in progress myself. I like the idea, but a round section handle doesn't work very well for me on a knife.

I feel the same as Howard on the round end, and the handle is too narrow at the blade for my tastes, but I think the idea is great. I love the overall look.

yeah the only issue i had with the marble is that was the size of it to start with it was preholed and the varied options to work with it had been limited to a small round handle i to prefer the flatter style sgian dubhs

It's a very interesting look, and I like the contrasting colors of the blade, hilt and pommel; but the narrow, rounded handle and wider blade evoke "African" instead of "Highland" in my mind. That, and if the color of the stone complemented the handle and blade better - something darker, but still translucent, maybe - I think that would add to the look.
I am easily moved for sympathy for dogs, far more so than for humans, because dogs do not understand. There is no way to explain that you will return, that the vet will make it all better, that they cannot go shooting today because that is not what today is about. They cannot work out that their misery is finite and will some time end, and so their misery is magnified.

I like the idea of the material, I'm not so crazy about the shape of the handle. That's just, take that with a grain of salt.

    I think it looks great!

I would agree with others that a flatter handle would suit my eye a bit more.

I personally like the contrast of the lighter stone with the darker blade. Great potential as a material in any event.
