Modifying a Nightstalker

My BF LOVES his Stillwater Nightstalker sporran. he just wished it was "spiced up" a notch. The modifications we came up with were done at Kevin Kinney's shop up in Duluth this summer. This could have been done by hand, but we used Kevin's wonderful sewing machine collection!

OK - to the process:
1) I traced the parts I wanted to cover in fur
2) I cut those pattern pieces out and traced them on fur. We used cow hide.
3) Cut out the hide parts being VERY careful not to cut off the fur edges.
4) Sew them in place.

NOTE: Make SURE you do not sew through all layers of the sporran, just sew the hide to the part you want covered. Under the flap, on the main body of the sporran, I sewed the pocked closed by mistake and had to rip the seam out and re-sew the hide under the velcro only.

I just got one myself and have liked it plenty as is, but your photos are making me rethink that qite a bit. Nice job!

That fur looks like Cousin It from the Addams Family.

I might have posted some of these before, but thought they would be fun for others to get ideas from.

All were based on the pattern that has been posted here before. I believe it is from the book "So you want to wear the Kilt."

St. Andrews Cross Sporran

With removable plastic lining for tobacco. It fits his small pipes perfectly!

A simple textured leather sporran
It needs more weight in the flap.

Bumble Sporran
Made from a childs slipper. I cut out a white sporran, topstiched what I could salvage from the slipper and Vola!

Gremlin Sporran
Or what can I do to this ugly stuffed animal?

I love the bumble. Dare I suggest he might be a substitute for the rare Acrylibeast? I have in my possession an old Cookie Monster hand puppet that I am debating turning into a full mask sporran. I still haven't convinced myself I can live without the puppet.
