    Moher fabric

Would be a moher (heavy, meant to be used for coats) proper material for kilt?

Or I should say Mohair. Sounds that more familiar?

It depends. Is it from long haired Mos or short haired ones?

I'm not an expert, but I'd have to say it's not.

Mother fabric... the fabric that never forgets to ask if you've cleaned your room.

I think that the reason why worsted wool is the preferred material is its tightness. Most mohair that I've seen would certainly come up pretty short on that count and so I couldn't see it making a good kilt fabric.

I couldn't wear a mohair kilt without flashing on the old Elton John song, "Bennie and the Jets"...

    She's got electric boots,
    a mohair suit,

    you know I read it in a maga-za-heeeeeeen, oh-oh!

    Buh-Buh-Buh Bennie and the Jets!

All the mohair cloth I have ever had anything to do with has had a very soft "hand". As such I doubt if it would hold the sharp crease needed for a successful kilt. I used to have a beautiful overcoat of mohair, it was very warm, but of course never had to have a crease ironed into it.

Very definitive NO answer. Then I'll pass this material.

    Thanks to all!
