motivationless
I simply can not get myself to work on this Gray Stewart kilt. In part it's because to do it right, I have to rip out a bunch of really tight machine stitching in the waistband and I just don't want to do it. I suppose I'm not really without motivation, it's that I'm pouring a lot of energy into throwing right now, and there's only so much mental and spiritual horsepower to go around.
I have a lineup of three-four more kilts behind this one, the last kilts I'm going to make for a long, long time, and I'm not making any progress on getting to them.
Never mind this post, it's just me, grumbling in public 'cause I'm cranky.

I can relate Alan.
My issue isn't so much lack of motivation as lack of time.
I have material here to make myself about 8 kilts now, but not enough time to get any made for myself right now.
I can't wait until August when I go back to long shifts with extended weekends.

If the feeling is only in regard to working on the kilt, then I'd recommend that you put it aside and begin a project that you really want to work on.
If the feeling has crept into other areas of life, you might be getting a little depressed. That's not at all surprising or unusual considering what's happening in the world these days, even if it's not affecting you directly.
I think my point is that you should take your feelings seriously. Even if you think you're just being a bit cranky, there's a reason for it.
.
The obscure we see eventually. The completely obvious, it seems, takes longer.

Alan - I think we will have to relieve the wizard of BC of his Curmudgeon title and bestow it on you!

I can empathize. I have a 5 yd casual Hunting Robertson that has been needing re-tailoring for three years or so now. I have a two month business trip coming up where I will need something to do in my spare time. A couple days of removing machine stitches, a couple hours of laying out my first box-pleated kilt, a few days of sewing ... and since I won't have much of anything else to keep myself busy, it should get done.
I am easily moved for sympathy for dogs, far more so than for humans, because dogs do not understand. There is no way to explain that you will return, that the vet will make it all better, that they cannot go shooting today because that is not what today is about. They cannot work out that their misery is finite and will some time end, and so their misery is magnified.

Alan my friend,
You have such energy and creativity it pains me to see that you have found yourself in a slump.
I wish there was something I could do to help inspire you and make the project fun again.
But I can't
All I can offer is this....

STOP YOU BELLYACHING ! THERE IS A KILT TO BE MADE AND IT ISN'T BLOODY WELL GOING TO SEW ITSELF TOGETHER IS IT?
GET BACK TO WORK!!!
Sincerely your friend
Jamie

To Panache's menacing picture, I can only add this incentive:
A snarling junkyard dog that will be told that if you don't keep your nose to the grindstone...
Chopper, Sic Balls!

Have a nice day.

Reason: Remembered the name of Old Man Pressman's dog from the book
