My $112.00 flashes!

No, I didn't really go out and spend $112.00 on flashes. Today is my wife's birthday, and, at her request, I bought her a sewing machine. The end result (for me) her first project was a set of grosgrain flashes, with a little prompting from me, of course. This is her first time using a sewing machine in about 9 or 10 years, so we started with something simple.



I think I should have gotten wider ribbon. This was only 7/8 inch wide. I do believe I will look for some wider ribbon later. This was the widest available in that green from our local Wal~Mart.

Now, how to convince her to make kilts....

I like the flashes and the black elastic. Typically, flashes are 1 1/4" to 1 1/2" wide. When is she going to make you a kilt?

I made a pair of flashes like those, but instead of cutting a "V" into each piece of ribbon, I cut each of them diagonally toward the middle, so the overall effect is a wide inverted "V".

Hopefully I can find some wider ribbon in another city. There ins't a fabric store here and Wal~Mart is very limited. As for the kilt-making...I think I will probably buy a new kilt before I talk her into making any.
