Talking My first kilt

After a lot of starts and stops, I finally finished my first kilt.

I bought a copy of Barb's book (The Art of Kiltmaking) just to appreciate the kilts I already had. But her instructions and the posts on the DIY forum gave me the confidence to try. Plus, finding 4.5 yards of double-wide 13oz Campbell of Cawdor at an terrific price didn't hurt. I grabbed a neetle and thread and went from simple sewing on buttons to a full kilt. Kind of like going from zero to sixty in 5.8 seconds.

Worked on it bit by bit over the holidays and into January. Finished it just two days ago, while stuck in the snow in Pennsylvania, visiting friends. If you can't go outside, you should just sew.

I know.... I know... without pictures, it didn't happen. So here are a few during construction and a couple of final shots.

Of course the house cat had to help:

If in doubt, baste:

BarbT - Thanks for all the guidance and inspiration. Loved the book....

A fine-looking bit of stitchery. You should be very proud of it.

Ummmm, well...... The first step is to admit that I have a problem. And I don't. Not yet. I'm sure the next one will be my last one. Just saw your pics of the box pleat tweed. That has given me a lot of ideas.

Thanks everyone for all the kind words.
