My first Mil Box Pleat kilt DIY

I've found this tartan at Hancock Fabrics in polyviscose and I thought it would be a great first attempt at a military box pleat. It has a 4 inch sett.

So I will start posting pics of my progress with commentary, as it has been done for other projects.

At first I thought it was Stewart Mourning, but it is missing a few white bands, so not sure what this is, though I like it.

Nice tartan Hector. If it turns out anywhere as nice as your last kilt, it will be quite handsome! Eagerly awaiting more pics!

    Cheers!

If it goes as well as your last kilt, you'll have pictures up by morning.

I could order and hand-made kilt from Mars, and still not grow a beard that full waiting on my kilt to arrive.

It seems this is the MacLeod Black and White Tartan.

Now im debating whether I should attempt a double box pleat or go on with a military box pleat.

    hhmm...decisions, decisions.

Some shots of this morning's progress so far:

First I cut the material in half so now I have 10 yards of 30" PV 'MacLeod Black' tartan.

Then I started pleating to the small stripe. I must say this Military box pleating is harder and slower than I thought it would be.

and here's a detail of the pleats. 10 done....21 more to go.

More pictures to come as I move along.

Looks great! But those are knife pleats, yes? Unless I am seeing that picture all wrong -- and 31 box pleats doesn't sound right, either. Any case, a nice-looking fabric made even better by the pleat-to-stripe.
