    My first (partly) handmade sporran.

(Unfortunately I don't have a nice step by step photo blog for this as I was focusing more on working with leather for the first time since I was like 6, and not getting too frustrated to just give up, lol. Though the stage I'm at right now is at the end!)

I like some others had purchased Stillwater Kilts Economy sporran (or whatever else the other retailers who sell them call it) and though it worked well enough, I just wanted more from it and decided to cannibalize it

The only parts that were original were the front and back pieces and they were cut down to fit the cantle kit I bought from them as well. I also decided to put a little bit of an antique look to the cantle by painting it with some gunmetal paint (black would have been too dark IMO since the sporran itself was going to be black. Lastly I decided I wanted some fur on it, so I bought some white rabbit pelts and got to it.

Here is what I've got so far:

Just gotta stitch the back piece on, dye the sides of the "leather" its made out of (at least cutting it up made me realize why it was so reasonably priced!) and decide how I want it to stay closed since I'm not too sure how well it'll hold closed when finished.

Working with tools is fun! Looks like your project will turn out fine.

Even in this day and age, there is something more satisfying in saying "I made it myself" rather than saying "I bought it myself".

The cantle looks nicely antiqued. Well done

    Regards

Yes, its quite satisfying to be able to say that I made it (well most of it in this case )

Should have the completed product pics posted later this evening (or much later depending on where you are )

Ok so here is the sporran with the gusset attached:

The back piece (only had to trim, and move the sporran belt loop and rivet in place:

Last, but not least, my new sporran in action:

I know I need to work on my stitching technique, but so far so good. I got a lot of compliments on it though

Thanks! I knew I wanted to go with white since the leather itself was black and I wanted to good contrast, plus it goes with pretty much anything
