    My new outfit

I'm kind of proud of this outfit so I thought I would show it. This is a kilt that I made myself using just plaid fabric from the local fabric store. It's lined so it's very warm. It's pleated to the stripe which gives it about a 2 and 1/2 inch pleat depth. It has a very nice swing. I altered the jacket too and it's good enough for now, but I think I will alter another one because I'm not happy with the sleeve length. The jacket alteration took about two days and since it was (very) used I decided to wash it in woolite. I think that's what happend to the sleeve length, but oh, well....it only cost me 8 bucks so I didn't really lose anything.
The flashes are made from some fabric remnants and only took about a half hour to sew up. I found that a good pair of hemostats is really good to turn the flashes inside out once the sewing is done.
I wore this outfil to church yesterday and got lots of good comments.
I also got lots of comments about Scots being very hardy for wearing my kilt while it was snowing

It don't mean a thing, if you aint got that swing!!

Very nice. I like the way the flashes match the necktie.

If you did all that yourself it's hard to tell. Well done, looks great.

I appreciate all of the support.
I am having fun with making my own stuff as much as possible.
I think I can say that I'm in the "intermediate" stage of kiltmaking. I've made 3 kilts so far. I've tried one canvas and two in cotton blends. Each one has taught me a lot. Now I have some wool standing by. It's not an official tartan either and it's not woven to the twill but it is a woven fabric and I think it looks pretty good. I'm going to try pleating it to the sett for the experience.
Then...I think I will be finally ready for a real tartan and that one will be a MacGregor
