    New Dress Sgian Dubh

Spent some quality time with my shop this weekend and managed to crank out a new sgain dubh. The handle is Water Buffalo with lapis spacers and a garnet in the pommel. Going to try and make a new style of sheath for it and I will see how that goes. Feedback is sought and appreciated, Thanks folks!

Very nice! I like that brown sheath you made for your latest antler handled sgian on your other page! Is that the new style you're speaking of? As always it looks great Taygrd

Very impressive and possibly unique - I don't think I have ever heard of lapis spacers before. Is it easy to work or difficult?

I'll take it a little further than the other comments and say that is beautiful!

Is the handle bilaterally symmetrical on either side of the blade? Or do you make the handle thinner on the leg side so it lies flatter against the leg?

I couldn't make a knife, but I know blanks can be purchased so I've considered attempting just the handle. So I'm thinking about what should be done, whether comfort would compromise looks.

Thank you all for your kind comments. The lapis is fairly easy to work and has been stabilized. The blade is centered in the handle and the picture is a little deceptive because it was taken off to the side. In order to keep the feel and use of the knife good I build these like I would a hunting knife. The blade is differentially heat treated and will take and hold an edge quiet well. No point in carrying a knife if it does not cut. I played around with a sheath today however I think I will go with a hard wood sheath as I normally do and include the other sheath made today with this knife. This one has a 4" blade and is 1/8" thick to keep it light. I may do some file work on the pommel, think that would look good?
    Thanks again fellas

That's a beautiful sgian! I love lapis, and your use of it really makes the spacers pop! I want one lol

Thanks again for your feedback Finished the sheath today, did a textured wood sheath which is a little different. What do you think?

Great looking sgian dubh, absolutely love the lapis blue against the black and silver. The sheath is a unique piece in itself and I like it a lot. Congratulations on a great piece of workmanship
